​Competition Rules and Guidelines 2017
 
Eligibility: 
Any owner or current employee of an established floral business located in CT, RI, MA, NY, NJ, PA, VT, ME, or NH. Limit one entry per person.

To participate the contestant must be:
1.      Registered for the competition by Friday February 17, 2017
Registered for the convention 
Present the following documentation on March 4, 2017 to verify employment or ownership:
         - A copy of the business state issued tax identification
A copy of pay stub (may black out financial info)


Size: 
Not to exceed 24” wide by 24” deep by 48” high. Dimensions will be STRICTLY adhered to. A design outside the boundaries will not be judged. 
Design must be secure enough to withstand moving, however it will not be touched by judges.

Materials & Construction:
The focus is on the artistry of floral design and creative use of living materials, thus the design must be comprised of at least 70% fresh 
floral/plant materials. 

The cost of all materials is not to exceed $150.00 wholesale value.
You must submit the materials form on March 4th, which displays the wholesale cost of all product used (fresh & hardgoods).
When registering on site, you will be provided with an 8.5x11 sheet to be completed and placed with your entry.  Half will show a clear breakdown of supplies and cost of goods not exceeding your budget.  The other half will give you the opportunity to talk about your interpretive piece and the book you chose (from above)

Placement:
Designs must be in place in the designated area at the Sheraton Springfield Hotel, Springfield, MA between 7:30am-8:30am on Saturday, March 4, 2017. There will be NO exceptions for late arrivals. Judging will begin promptly at 9:00am.

Face Off:
At 12:30pm the top three entries will be announced in the main competition area. 

Saturday evening the top three designers will compete in a 1 hour Face-Off Competition held on the Main Stage as part of the Saturday evening program. All material for will be provided. Designers may only bring their personal tools.

The designs from the Face-Off will be judged and those scores will be combined with the first set of scores. 

Prizes: 
FIRST PLACE: $1000.00 & plaque
Second & third place winners will receive a plaque
Expo attendees will also vote on their favorite entry for the People’s Choice Award

Award Announcements:
Winners & People’s Choice Award will be announced and prizes awarded on Sunday, March 5, 2017.

Photos will be taken of the winners and a press release will be sent. 

Names of the designers will be placed on the entries after judging is completed. Arrangements must be left in place until 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 5th. CFA is not responsible for any loss, breakage or theft. Any arrangement left after 4:00 pm on Sunday will be given away or discarded.

The 2017 Northeast Floral Designer of the Year Competition is sponsored by The Connecticut Florists Association. 
 
Registration: 
Space is limited, advance registration is necessary. NO entry will be accepted after Friday, February 17, 2017. Registration for the competition should be completed within the online registration for the Northeast Floral Expo. For information or questions, call CFA headquarters at 800-352-6946.
